چکیده

Mosquitoes are notorious vectors of severe diseases, posing significant threats to human health. Although pesticides commonly used for mosquito control, their indiscriminate application can harm the environment and non-target organisms. Consequently, alternative strategies, such as plant-based mosquitocides, gaining interest. This study evaluated larvicidal efficacy methanolic leaf extracts from Vitex negundo Argemone mexicana against fourth instar larvae Anopheles subpictus. The were analyzed phytochemical compositions. Larvicidal bioassay showed concentration-dependent activity both An. V. extract exhibited 86.36% mortality at 400 ppm, while A. 83.33% same concentration. Probit analysis determined LC50 LC90 values 217.06 ppm 404.32 respectively, 224.45 420.34 respectively. These findings suggest potential natural agents

Larvicidal activity of medicinal plant extracts against Anopheles subpictus & Culex tritaeniorhynchus

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Mosquitoes transmit serious human diseases, causing millions of deaths every year and the development of resistance to chemical insecticides resulting in rebounding vectorial capacity. Plants may be alternative sources of mosquito control agents. The present study assessed the role of larvicidal activities of hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate, acetone, and methanol dried...

Larvicidal activity and GC-MS analysis of flavonoids of Vitex negundo and Andrographis paniculata against two vector mosquitoes Anopheles stephensi and Aedes aegypti.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES Development of insect resistance to synthetic pesticides, high operational cost and environmental pollution have created the need for developing alternative approaches to control vector-borne diseases. In the present study, larvicidal activity of flavonoid extracts of different parts of Vitex negundo (Linnaeus) and Andrographis paniculata (Nees) have been studied against...

Bacteriostatic potential of Argemone mexicana Linn. against enteropathogenic bacteria

Bacteriostatic efficacy of 16 crude extracts derived from different parts of Argemone mexicana Linn. (Papaveraceae) has been analyzed on enteropathogenic bacteria such as Klebsiella oxytoca, Vibrio damsella, Enterobacter aerogenes and Escherichia coli. The bacteriostatic efficacy was elucidated using single disc diffusion method. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the extracts showin...

Sesquiterpenoids and norterpenoids from Vitex negundo.

Chemical investigation on the seeds of Vitex negundo has afforded a new furan-containing sesquiterpenoid, negunfurol (1), a new norlabdane-type diterpenoid, negundoal (2), and two new norursane-type triterpenoids, negundonorins A (3) and B (4), together with two know compounds, 3-formyl-4,5-dimethyl-8-oxo-5H-6,7-dihydronaphtho[2,3-b]furan (5) and 3-epi-corosolic acid (6). Their structures and c...

Limonoids as larvicidal components against mosquito larvae (Aedes aegypti Linn.).

The study focussed on four limonoids (calodendrolide, harrisonin, pedonin and pyroangolensolide) as larvicidal components against mosquito 2nd instar larvae of the species Aedes aegypti Linn. senso stricto. Since pyroangolensolide is close to calodendrolide in structure, it was synthesized through reduction of calodendrolide with chromium(II) chloride in acetone. Harrisonin and pedonin were ext...
